Overview

Telehealth psychotherapy has demonstrated efficacy in a range of mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Like all therapies, the success of telehealth psychotherapies ultimately depends on the relationship between the clinician and client.

This activity aims to help clinicians develop stronger therapeutic relationships over telehealth, to help support high-efficacy therapies. It will cover techniques for building rapport in adults, children, and special populations.

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to this activity is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • develop rapport building skills by adapting your communication style to video,

  • recognise practical strategies for enhancing both healthcare professional and client comfort with telehealth technology, and

  • recognise how to effectively maintain children’s attention and build rapport when conducting telehealth psychology with kids.

About the presenter(s)

Pete is a psychology graduate and Telehealth Evangelist at Coviu and he has trained over 4,000 telehealth practitioners since March 2020.
Pete’s domains of expertise are the clinical, administrative, technical, and commercial aspects of telehealth service delivery. Prior to joining Coviu, Pete developed a neurostimulation device for the treatment of severe mental illnesses with funding from the University of Sydney.
