Disability services

The APS is actively involved in advocating for the rights of people with disabilities, including advocating for the right for people with a disability to:

  • exercise personal choice
  • access appropriate models of care that include evidence-based psychological interventions
  • access appropriate housing and accommodation, and
  • access employment.

Recent APS engagement on issues relating to people with disabilities includes:

  • advice to government regarding the NDIS and its operation, including the Quality and Safeguarding Framework
  • adequacy of residential aged care for young people, and
  • development of a practice guide aimed at reducing the need for restrictive practices in the disability sector.
