Partnerships

The APS works with a range of organisations to ensure best practice application of psychological interventions and improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians.

This is done through:

  • Strategic partnerships with influential entities, such as Allied Health Professions Australia; Mental Health Professions Association; Australian Council of Social Services; Heads of Departments and Schools of Psychology Australia; Mental Health Australia; Australian Red Cross; Phoenix Australia; Private Mental Health Consumer and Carer Network and the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council; Climate and Health Alliance and Social Determinants of Health Alliance that enable the APS to be involved in coordinated advocacy efforts;
  • Undertaking the delivery of funded projects for the organisations including the Australian Government, beyondblue, Victorian WorkCover and SuperFriend;
  • Being represented on over 40 influential committees on government policy and service development and actively liaising with Primary Health Networks;
  • Providing submissions to national and state government reviews and taskforces. These submissions covered a wide range of areas including aged care, child and family welfare, disability, health and mental health, institutional child abuse and a range of social issues; and
  • Influence at an international level through membership of the Board and Executive Committee of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), membership of the Board of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) and through coordination of the Divisions of IAAP.

The APS also engages with our member experts to provide evidence-based input to various health guidelines and policies being developed by other organisations on the management of conditions such as cancer, diabetes, chronic disease (particularly the management of chronic pain), mood disorders, alcohol and drug treatment and suicide prevention. Member experts have also provided input to consultations into the likely impact of resistance to interrogation training in the military, drugs in sport, the physical health of people living with mental illness, and accommodation for people with disabilities.

Services the APS can provide include:

  • Research and literature reviews
  • Program development and implementation
  • Training including relevant psychological training for health professionals and other industries
  • Development of guidelines and frameworks
  • Organisational support services
