Introduction to pain management

Organiser Banner

Overview

There are 3.37 million Australians currently living with chronic pain.

Traditionally perceived to be a concern for the medical field alone, a growing understanding of brain plasticity and the role of psycho-social factors has led to a paradigm shift in best-practice treatment. The opioid epidemic, with oversubscribing, overuse and escalating deaths, makes this a critical issue of our time. Psychologists and other health care providers can play a key role in resolving this crisis, through a contemporary understanding of pain management.

The APS’ Introduction to pain management training has been guided by Australian experts in the field, and contains activities, case studies and self-assessments. It has been designed for psychologists, physiotherapists and any health care provider who supports adults at risk of, or suffering from, chronic disabling pain.
