PsyBA competencies for psychologists

The Psychology Board of Australia have developed revised professional competencies for psychologists which will come into effect on 1 December 2025.

These competencies were formulated following wide-ranging consultation, to ensure they are contemporary and relevant to safe and effective psychology practice.

PsyBA professional competencies are the minimum knowledge and skills that are expected from all Australian registered psychologists and need to be maintained throughout the psychologist’s career.

Psychologists have an ongoing commitment to learning, education and training as outlined in the Board’s Continuing professional development (CPD) registration standard. Psychologists are encouraged to self-assess against the professional competencies using the self-assessment template which will help practitioners to develop their continuing professional development learning plan.

APS professional development activities have been mapped against these new competencies to assist psychologists in selecting CPD relevant to their learning needs and scope of practice.
