Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme for Allied Health Professionals

Overview

Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) is pleased to present the Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) eLearning activity. 

This activity is suitable for students and graduates, practice managers, and all AHPs new to working within the framework of the NDIS. It provides an overview of the NDIS framework and familiarisation of the resources available on the NDIS website and the areas of relevancy to AHPs. 

It consists of  four modules:

  1. Overview of the NDIS

  2. NDIS Participant Plans, Goals and Outcomes

  3. Introduction to NDIS Funded Supports for AHPs

  4. My NDIS Pathway – How AHPs Provide Support

Upon completion, it is expected that allied health professionals should have a much more thorough understanding of the NDIS, and how the scheme impacts on the delivery of services for people with disabilities (participants).

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to this eLearning actvity is for 6 months from the date of confirmed registration.

This eLearning activity has been assessed against the APS Standards for CPD activities and approved for its education quality.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this eLearning activity, participants should be able to 

  • recognise the role of the NDIS

  • identify types of supports participants can access and how reasonable and necessary funded supports are classified by the NDIS

  • recognise the role of allied health professionals and how they may provide support for people with disabilities who may need NDIS-funded supports, and

  • develop a particpant plan and recognise how allied health professionals would provide funded supports.
