Response to the NDIS 2022-23 Annual Pricing Review

The Australian Psychological Society’s submission to the NDIS 2022-23 Annual Pricing Review (APR) provided another opportunity to draw attention to ongoing barriers limiting psychologists’ full contribution to the NDIS.

Our submission highlighted the need for immediate pricing and regulatory reform to ensure that Australians living with disability have timely access to psychological services which can support the capacity, independence and wellbeing of participants.

Our submission drew particular attention the following:

  • Ongoing workforce shortages for psychologists have created thin markets which have been exacerbated over the past few years.NDIS price limits must be attuned to the significant demand for psychologists’ services across the country, noting that current limits are well below the fees recommended by the APS.
  • Administrative burdens, including NDIS registration and compliance costs, continue to be disproportionate for psychologists.Psychology is already a highly regulated profession, and there are few benefits for registration. The high proportion of unbillable time associated with NDIS work is a further disincentive to participation.

The APS will continue to advocate for psychologists to practise to their full scope of practice in the disability sector, including through the NDIS Review and to the Joint Standing Committee of the NDIS inquiries.
