APS Submission to the NDIS Review

The APS is pleased to have had opportunities throughout the NDIS Review process to provide consultative input and to represent the experience of members and psychologists.

In our recent NDIS-related submissions, including other submissions to the NDIS Review, we have pointed to the unique and valued role of psychologists in supporting the functional ability, independence and participation of Australians with disability through the NDIS.  We have also shared members’ experience of systemic barriers and biases which limit the full contribution of psychology to the NDIS. Psychologists have witnessed the harm and distress that these factors have caused their clients, including when psychological services are denied or cut without good reason.

In our final submission to the NDIS Review, the APS responded to the issues and questions raised in the Review panel’s interim report, What We Have Heard.  The APS has made a range of solution-focused recommendations which would enhance outcomes and experiences for participants and applicants, reduce administrative burdens on psychologists, promote a culture of collaboration and learning, and contribute to the sustainability of the NDIS.

The APS looks forward to working with the Government, NDIA and the broader NDIS ecosystem in being part of the solution in the reforms which will emerge from the NDIS Review.  We will continue to provide sensible, trusted, evidence-based positions which promote the objectives of the Scheme, and enable psychologists to work effectively and efficiently in the NDIS and beyond for the benefit of all Australians.
