APS Submission to the ANZSCO Comprehensive Review (Round 2 Consultation)

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) has provided recommendations to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as part of the ANZSCO Comprehensive Review.

The APS advocates for the reclassification of psychologists within the ANZSCO structure, suggesting a unified occupation titled "psychologist" with specified specialisations reflecting the Psychology Board of Australia’s Areas of Practice Endorsement (AoPE).

The APS also recommends relocating psychologists under the health professionals category, removing "psychotherapist" from the psychologist group, elevating the skill level for psychologists, and adding a new occupation, "psychological scientist." These changes aim to better align ANZSCO with contemporary psychological practice and regulation in Australia.
