Overview

Project International is presenting a three-part online violence series for the Queensland College of Forensic Psychologists. The workshops are designed for busy professionals, with options to register for one or more sessions.

The first workshop on lethality assessments is scheduled for 16/10/2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Presented by Dr. Kelly Watt, this session will focus on lethal and near-lethal violence, particularly intimate partner violence and its potential escalation to femicide.

On 20/11/2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Brisbane time, Dr. Stephen Hart will present the second workshop on assessing threats. The training will cover the significance of violent threats as warning signs for violence risk and introduce a practical structure for assessing risk, the "THREATS" acronym.

The final workshop on risk communication will be held on 18/12/2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Dr. Brianne Layden will lead this session, focusing on risk communication as a crucial strategy for ensuring the effective implementation of management strategies and violence prevention.

About the presenter(s)

Dr. Kelly Watt is a Director and Threat Assessment Specialist at Project International. Her work is concentrated on violence risk assessment and management, with a particular focus on victim safety planning, coordinated community responses, and threat assessment teams. In addition to her role at Project International, Dr. Watt serves as a workplace consultant at the Centre for Research and Education in Forensic Psychiatry at Helse Bergen-HF. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology and a member of the Mental Health, Law, and Policy Institute at Simon Fraser University.

Dr. Stephen Hart is also a Director and Threat Assessment Specialist at Project International. His professional focus is on the development, implementation, and evaluation of decision support aids for violence risk assessment and management and mental disorders associated with violence risk, including psychopathic personality disorder. Concurrently, he is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University, a researcher at the Centre for Research and Education in Forensic Psychiatry at Helse Bergen-HF, and an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Brianne Layden is another Director and Threat Assessment Specialist at Project International. Outside of this role, she works as a contract psychologist with the Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission of British Columbia and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University.
