Overview

Series: Psychology within the legal context

This eLearning series consist of two modules:

1. Exploring psychology in the legal context, and

2. Practicing psychology in the legal context

This is the second module is the series, and it explores clinical practice issues for the psychologist to consider in the legal context including typical client characteristics, responding to legal requests, preparing reports for court and responding to legal questions.

Three topics are covered in this module:

  • Ethics and procedures,

  • Professional boundaries and relationships, and

  • Risk management. 

This module builds on knowledge gained in the first module in the series: Exploring psychology within the legal context.

The APS acknowledges the significant contributions in time and expertise of the National Forensic College including: Dr Amanda White - UNSW, Dr Katie Seidler - USYD, Dr Katrina Fritzon - Bond University, and Dr Astrid Birgden - Deakin University.

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to this eLearning actvity is for 6 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the eLearning activity, participants should be able to 

  • describe the ethical and procedural issues relevant to psychologists’ roles in the Australian legal system, 

  • describe the parameters of professional boundaries, relationships, and psychology practice in the Australian legal system, and

  • describe strategies for personal and professional risk management for psychologists intersecting with the Australian legal system.
