Dissociation Training

Overview

This is an advanced training for those who have completed an EMDRAA approved EMDR basic training. It is recommended that those attending be experienced practitioners who have recognised the need for further training in the field of dissociation to manage their clients with complex presentations. It is expected the trainees will be quite familiar with the information provided at the Basic Training. Day 2 of the training is very much a day of practicum. It is a condition of attending the training that trainees be prepared to take on the roles of both client and clinician. As clinician they will be expected to put into practice information provided in the lectures and videos including Fraser’s Table. They will also be expected to set up and reprocess a memory with Emotional Parts. As client they must be willing to experience their Emotional Parts for their clinician to work with.

Day 1: Is divided into four segments:

  • Recognising Dissociation,
  • Fraser’s Table including demonstration or video,
  • EMDR and Trauma Related Dissociation,
  • Demonstration of Memory Processing with Emotional Part or videos.

Day 2: Is essentially a day of practicum where trainees will be engaged in working with and experiencing emotional parts.( See Full Details at EMDRhub.com.au)

Presenter(s)

Mr. Sigmund Burzynski and Ms. Jenell Wilkie

About the presenter(s)

Sigmund Burzynski began his EMDR journey over 30 years ago, in 1992, when he completed EMDR Part 1 training with Francine Shapiro (founder of EMDR Therapy). He completed Part 2 training with Francine Shapiro the following year and his passion for EMDR led him to train extensively as an EMDR facilitator with Australia’s first EMDR Institute trainer Mr. Gary Fulcher. In 1998, he was chosen to undertake further training with Francine Shapiro, and became an EMDR Institute trainer.

Since that time Sigmund has been actively involved in trainings throughout Australia (including trainings in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart), as well as New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia. He has been actively involved in the supervision and training of Psychologists, and has lectured on EMDR at the University of Indonesia and Tarumanagora University, Indonesia. Sigmund, and now long-time friend and associate, Roger Solomon, then held the first Structural Dissociation Master Class in Australia in 2000. After many years of providing supervision and training to a range of allied health professionals nationally and internationally, Sigmund is now semi-retired and continues to find great joy in providing boutique EMDR Institute trainings to small groups of therapists.

Sigmund worked in private psychological practice in Geelong between 1994 and 2023, where he worked as a Senior Psychologist at Associated Psychology Services. Prior to this Sigmund served as resident psychologist at a maximum security prison for six years. His experience in the prison system resulted in developing a significant emphasis in his training dealing with trauma, violence, anger, drug related issues and personality disorders. He was actively involved in developing a group program with emphasis on anger management named the ‘Alternatives to Violence Program’. The program was given a National Award. He has provided public lectures on Anger Management in Singapore and presented a case study on Trauma based anger at the inaugural EMDR Asia conference in Bali.

His current interests lie in the area of trauma management, depression, anxiety disorders, anger management, pain management and sexual dysfunction.

Jenell is a highly experienced Psychologist who has worked across government, NGO and the private sector since 1996. She currently works in private practice in Atherton and at the Brighton Clinic in Cairns.

Jenell did her EMDR basic training in 2015 with Sigmund Burzynski; the most experienced EMDR Institute trainer in Australia. After this, she was so passionate about EMDR, she travelled to Thailand to attend her first advanced training; a Master Class with Dr Roger Solomon in 2016. Both trainers were trained by and selected by Dr Francine Shapiro to become EMDR Institute trainers. Sigmund is an EMDR Institute trainer of trainers. Jenell’s training with Dr Roger Solomon at the experience based Master Class, skilled her in working with the Theory of Structural Dissociation as applied to the treatment of complex trauma and highly dissociative clients.

Jenell then went on to attend numerous Master Classes and advanced trainings applying EMDR to complex presentations; CPTSD, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, dissociative personality structures, addictions and compulsions. Jenell became an accredited EMDRAA Practitioner in 2019, then an accredited EMDRAA Consultant in 2023. Jenell is able to assist all EMDR trainees in supervision and case consultation. She has specialist skills that are unique to EMDR Institute trainings and can provide the necessary 5-hour case consultation that is an essential part of their EMDR trainings.
