Overview
The NSW Central Coast Branch Committee is pleased to offer members a high-quality online webinar with Senior Consultant and Psychologist Marc Chaussivert from STARTTS (NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors).
Join us online with presenter Marc from STARTTS (NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors), a specialist, not-for-profit organisation with over 35 years of experience supporting survivors of torture and refugee trauma. This training draws on STARTTS’ extensive expertise in providing culturally appropriate psychological care and community-based interventions to help individuals and families rebuild their lives in Australia.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the intersection between culture, the refugee resettlement journey, and complex trauma and loss in children, adolescents and their families. The session also covers culturally safe and traumainformed practice, effective engagement using interpreters, and strategies to manage vicarious trauma, countertransference, and maintain professional boundaries and self-care.
This webinar is particularly timely in light of the upcoming updates to the Professional Competencies for Psychologists, which come into effect on December 1, 2025.
Psychologists seeking to align their practice with these revised competencies will find this session highly relevant to their ongoing professional development.
Of particular significance is Competency 7, which highlights the need for a client-centred, human rights–focused approach when working with an increasingly diverse range of populations.
