Psychedelics and Birthing Transpersonal Psychology (followed by PAT Interest Group AGM)

Overview

For most of its history, psychology was narrowly focused on pathology: diagnosing disorders, managing symptoms, and keeping people “normal.” Then, in 1960s, visionaries like Abraham Maslow asked about people who aren’t broken? What about peak experiences, self-actualization, and yearning for the transcendent?

That rebellion gave birth to Humanistic Psychology. Soon afterwards, these visionaries asked: What lies beyond ego self? What is the mystical, the sacred, the infinite? Thus Transpersonal Psychology was born — with sudden relevance during the 1960’s psychedelic revolution.

Once dismissed and driven underground, psychedelic research has returned with rigorous, groundbreaking science. Many studies indicate lasting healing from depression, anxiety, addiction, and existential distress is not necessarily dosage or therapy technique — but often affected by mystical or spiritual experience psychedelics make possible for many persons.

Come join us for a mind-expanding evening as we explore:

  • How psychedelics accidentally midwifed an entire new branch of Psychology?
  • How do “spiritual” experiences influence and predict mental health recovery?
  • Have psychedelics always influenced individual & community health/growth?

This isn’t your grandparents’ therapy talk. This is where science meets soul — and everything we thought we knew about the mind is changing. You won’t want to miss this. See you there. 🔥✨
