How to Prepare for a Potential Complaint and What to Do if You Receive One?” APS North Coast Networking Event and AGM

Overview

Another Eventful and Thought-Provoking Evening Awaits!

The theme for this years discussion is: “How to Prepare for a Potential Complaint and What to Do if You Receive One?”

Increasingly, many people are turning to AI for mental health guidance. Included in this trend are some AI systems suggesting that users consider lodging complaints against their human practitioners. Because of this, there has been an increasing number of complaints about psychologists made to AHPRA. Added to this is the ongoing pressure to “get it right” or “else,” and many are feeling the increasing burden on their performance. Many psychologists state that the fear of a complaint has a direct impact on their work. This is not isolated to our profession. Many other health professions report becoming more compliant and less adventurous in their treatment strategies because they would rather play it safe than risk a complaint and potential regulatory action. With all of this, it is no wonder people are turning to AI - if we are going to be turned into robots, at least the AI version comes free.

The aim of this discussion is not to provoke fear or anxiety but rather to support us all to be prepared and to know we are a collective community supporting each other. Complaints can be extremely stressful, and your APS North Coast Committee is dedicated to supporting our members in the event that a complaint is made.
