Webinar (Live) Event

The psychology of system change and resistance to change, from burnout to bureaucracies and back again

Overview

The present talk will discuss the psychological reality of being in multiple ingroups, oriented to multiple outgroups, with diverse goals and behaviours. We will then consider persons and groups who are changing over time, who are located in place and social spaces, and who are cycling identities and norms as they are moving and migrating in regular patterns. Prof Louis will argue that core principles of systems thinking shape the psychology of individuals in groups in complex systems apply broadly (e.g., in health decisions, workplace politics, etc.). Using this approach we illuminate new dynamics of personal and institutional stress and stagnation, as well as new possibilities for better targeting change interventions for individual and collective thriving.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should leave with:

  • a new understanding on workplace dynamics
  • a fresh approach to considering personal and institutional stress and stagnation
