Overview

The National College of Community Psychologists is pleased to invite you to the next two webinars in this series to refresh or to learn about community psychology principles. The webinars will be facilitated by Dr Julie Morsillo, Community and Counselling Psychologist.

Webinar 3 - 2nd May 2026: Human rights - not just for some We know that some people are more equal than others. We live in communities that have diverse ethnicities, sexualities, and abilities. People who have suffered because of their status or role, privately and in public: from coercive control, neurodiverse conditions, intergenerational trauma and more. We can support our diverse communities through gaining understanding, providing counselling and through advocacy, with:

  • Humane care – consider human rights for the common good of all and for our common planet Use your privilege and power for a good purpose (three p’s)
  • Manage ways for the marginalised to have a voice – including Indigenous
  • Appreciative Inquiry – discovering the best in people and agencies (not just problems)
  • Name and advocate for the needs of marginalised people and communities

Webinar 4 - 30th May 2026: Care of elderly The elderly were once revered as the wise ones of the community, the holder of the stories. Now with our extensive information technology for our stories, and better health care, they are living longer, and often left in aged care facilities. Many become lonely and disheartened with their aging bodies. We need to show offer them dignity of care, and show them appreciation for the legacy they can leave for family and others. This session will show creative ways to engage with the elderly.

  • Care with dignity therapy for dementia and palliative care – dignity question & dignity legacy
  • A different perspective – enter the world of the older person, not impose yours
  • Respond to their needs in the moment – not your own needs
  • Effective ways to reach them & for them to reach you & to leave a legacy:
    • music, art, nature, food, travel, events
    • biography therapy
    • highlights of life story
    • reconciliation letter for challenging relationship
