APS College
Overview
The WA APS Clinical College and the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law (ANZAPPL) are pleased to host:
"Schema Therapy with Challenging Clients" - a comprehensive one-day workshop tailored for psychologists and other clinicians seeking to enhance their expertise in managing severe personality disorders.
This hands-on session delves into the foundational schema model, equipping you with practical tools to identify early maladaptive schemas and modes, formulate complex cases, and apply targeted interventions for borderline, narcissistic, and antisocial presentations in both clinical and forensic contexts.
Through interactive exercises, real-world case studies, and forensic adaptations like integrating risk assessments, you'll gain actionable strategies to navigate resistance, build therapeutic alliances, and improve outcomes with high-risk clients— empowering you to transform challenging encounters into opportunities for meaningful change.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this one-day workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the core schema therapy model, including early maladaptive schemas and schema modes, and their relevance to severe personality disorders.
- Identify key schemas and modes, and develop integrated case formulations for clients with borderline, narcissistic, and antisocial presentations in clinical and forensic settings.
- Apply targeted schema therapy interventions to effectively manage resistance, strengthen the therapeutic alliance, and improve outcomes with high-risk or challenging clients.
