Autism Spectrum Disorder:
3. Identifying co-occurring conditions

Organiser Banner

Overview

You can help improve autistic health and wellbeing by understanding and responding to common co-occurring conditions. Some of these will represent strengths, such as intellectual giftedness and specialist skills, while others. may negatively impact quality of life, especially given the health inequities autistic people face (Hwang et al., 2019).

This eLearning activity aims to assist you to identify strengths and challenges associated with autism, to enable you to support a positive autistic identity, and break down healthcare barriers, where present and relevant.

Additionally, you are encouraged to review the Australian government’s 2025-2035 National Roadmap to Improve the Health and Mental Health of Autistic People which focuses on neurodiversity-affirming practice, intersectionality, co-occurring conditions, autistic burnout and lived-experience, with emphasis on autistic-led/participatory research.
