Gambling

Gambling harm is a significant public health issue, affecting not only individuals who gamble but also their families and communities.

With the growing accessibility of online betting and the normalisation of gambling in everyday life, psychologists are increasingly likely to encounter clients impacted by gambling-related issues, whether directly or indirectly.

The Australian Psychological Society, with funding from the Office of Responsible Gambling NSW, has developed resources for psychologists to help them increase their understanding of gambling harm, learn how to identify it in clinical practice, and apply evidence-based treatment strategies to effectively support their clients.

An information sheet is also available for people affected by their own or someone else’s gambling to help them understand the causes, treatments and impacts of gambling harm.
