Practice guide for physiotherapists

Psychological wellbeing and care for people living with Motor Neurone Disease (plwMND) and their carers: A guide for physiotherapists

Physiotherapists are integral multidisciplinary team members and tailor assessments and interventions to the plwMND’s needs and symptoms to maximise function. However, practitioners should be aware of the range of psychological challenges and factors impacting plwMND and their carers.

Psychological impairments have important clinical implications for physiotherapists including communication, treatment engagement and adherence.

This practice guide aims to assist psychologists  in identifying common mental health considerations in the management of plwMND and their carers. This knowledge will enable psychologists to adapt their practice to meet the needs of plwMND and their carers and positively impact their quality of life.
