PsyBA-approved Supervisor refresher training: An Organisational Psychology focused Master class
This PsyBA-approved Supervisor Master class (Part 4) addresses supervision in the context of the recently updated Competency 8, that calls for a health equity and human rights approach when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, groups and organisations.
As Supervisors, we need to support student and practitioner supervisees in developing their own competence in culturally responsive practice. We also need to build our own understanding and competence.
In a first for Organisational Psychology, this Master class has been developed collaboratively with Indigenous and non-Indigenous psychologists, experienced supervisors and educators. It has a specific focus on the workplace and leadership, teams and individual experiences at work, to address Competency 8 in the context of Organisational Psychology. The learning experience will be active and practical with case studies, role plays and the application of reflective and reflexive practice.
This Masterclass is being offered in conjunction with IOP26 in Melbourne, and provides a unique opportunity for face-to-face learning with Organisational psychology colleagues. It will be co-facilitated by two experienced presenters. Prof Mark Wiggins, an Organisational Psychologist with extensive supervision experience and PsyBA-accredited trainer, and Christine Ross, an experienced educator and nationally respected Aboriginal facilitator, MC and consultant who brings deep experience in culturally responsive engagement, governance, systems review, and has worked with a wide range of Australian organisations.
This Master class (Part 4) has been designed for existing Organisational Psychology Bopard-approved Supervisors who want to maintain their status as a Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)-approved supervisor (principal or secondary). Approved supervisors are eligible to enrol and attendance to this training will meet the requirements to maintain supervisory status for a further five years.
Psychologists who are not currently a PsyBA-approved supervisor can use this workshop for general CPD purposes but cannot use this workshop to gain supervisor approval.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this training, participants should be able to:

strengthen supervisors' understanding of culturally responsive practices that contribute to culturally safe and effective workplace experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,

develop supervisors' understanding of their own cultural responsiveness and its impact on supervision and organisational psychology practice, and

develop supervisors' ability to apply reflexive approaches that support the integration of Indigenous and non-indigenous knowledges in professional practice and supervision.

Dr Mark Wiggins FAPS, Christine Ross
About the presenter(s)
Mark Wiggins is a Registered Psychologist and Professor of Organisational Psychology in the School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University. Mark’s research and practice targets psychological health and safety in high consequence environments, including transportation, energy, and health. He has led the development of a number of novel interventions, including assessments of diagnostic skills and mental workload, training initiatives for decision-making and situational assessment, and the redesign of high technology work environments. He has supervised placement students and registrars for over 20 years, is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society, and is the APS Representative with Standards Australia.
Christine Ross is an Arrernte/Eastern Arrernte/Kaytetye woman from Central Australia, raised in Darwin NT and now based in Perth for over 23 years. Deeply connected to the local Noongar community, she is a nationally respected Aboriginal Facilitator, MC, and Consultant. Christine has delivered Aboriginal Cultural Awareness programs to hundreds of participants, facilitated major national forums and conferences, and continues to lead important conversations on education, leadership, and employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Her professional background includes 20 years in Education in both NT and WA, a period as Lecturer at Murdoch University’s School of Education, and four years as Chairperson of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Association (NATSIWA).
