Overview

This eLearning activity explores the constructs of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), examining key principles and practices that are common to the diverse range of applications of CBT.

Comprising of eight (8) topics designed to enhance your practice in utilising a range of behaviour and cognitively focused interventions to support anxiety and mood conditions in the community.

  1. Introduction to CBT,
  2. Early sessions in CBT,
  3. Understanding the Cognitive Model,
  4. Case formulation,
  5. The therapeutic relationship,
  6. General session structure and between sessions work,
  7. Treatment planning and Interventions, and
  8. Monitoring & supporting progress, evaluating outcomes.

Duration of access

Access to this eLearning activity is 6 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Level of Learning

Foundational/Intermediate. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic and those with some previous learning on the topic.

Target audience

This activity is suitable for psychologists, general practitioners, social workers, and other Allied Health professionals.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this eLearning activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the theoretical underpinnings and process-based evolution of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), including core principles, session structure, and therapeutic mechanisms,
  • Apply the CBT model to client presentations by identifying automatic thoughts, core beliefs, behavioural patterns, and emotional responses in clinical case examples,
  • Formulate client difficulties using contemporary CBT approaches, tailoring interventions to presenting issues and client values,
  • Implement evidence-based CBT strategies, including behavioural, emotional, and cognitive techniques, in ways that reflect collaborative empiricism, cultural responsiveness, and therapeutic flexibility, and
  • Evaluate therapeutic progress using psychometric tools, client feedback, and self-reflection, integrating this data into ongoing treatment planning and outcome reporting.
