Overview
This webinar will present the Trauma-Informed Design Toolkit, developed to equip designers with practical, tested, and actionable strategies to support trauma-informed design practice.
It is a replicable framework for translating trauma awareness into design initiatives that are transferable across diverse typologies, from supported accommodation to schools and public buildings such as libraries and community centres.
The research establishes six principles for Trauma-Informed Design and discusses a recent case study, showcasing the look and feel of embedded trauma-informed thinking and design.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:

recognise trauma, beyond psychological practice to the environmental factors that are potentially stressful, triggering, and/or re-traumatising,

describe the principles of trauma-informed design and practical design strategies that can mitigate triggers, and
-
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary professionals, including designers, to integrate trauma-informed care into the planning and delivery of built environments to resist re-traumatisation of clients in addition to staff.

About the presenter(s)
Dr Jacqueline Baker, Head of Research, spearheads research within a broader innovation group, supporting multi-sectors and practice areas with data-driven methodologies and project intelligence shaped by over 65 years of practice.
Leveraging environmental psychology, neuroarchitecture, behavioural science and technology, she helps architects, interior designers, and planners design places and spaces for human flourishing.
Jacqueline has held multiple research roles with universities and architecture & engineering practices prior to joining COX. Her research has contributed to behavioural, social, commercial, environmental, and cultural impact for T1/T2 organizations, governments, environmental agencies and academic labs.
She serves as an Industry Partner and Partner Investigator on multi-year research projects with Monash University, University of New South Wales and Queensland University of Technology.
Jacqueline is also an Industry Supervisor to PhD students at Swinburne University, Adelaide University and the University of Wollongong. At COX she mentors and supervises recipients of an in-house research grant.
Zoë King, Interior Designer and Director at COX Architecture.
Zoë is a Director of COX in the Adelaide studio. A senior interior design leader, Zoë has specialist experience in education projects, civic architecture and sports architecture. Her influence is clear with impressive projects dotted across major Australian and New Zealand cities, including Her Majesty’s Theatre in Adelaide, Adelaide Botanic High School, Adelaide Oval, Optus Stadium in Perth and the Christchurch Justice and Emergency Precinct.
Zoë plays an important role for our Adelaide teams, guiding projects with her integrated approach to design. Her ability to blur boundaries between interior and exterior spaces ensures every project she touches maintains a sense of place and identity.
Zoë’s reputation for leadership in client briefing and engagement processes precedes her. An ambitious, creative and dedicated design professional, Zoë’s imaginative and considered work speaks volumes to her talent. Her skills in client liaison, stakeholder engagement, brief development and design concept add value to every project.
