APS College
Overview
This is the first webinar in a 2 part webinar series.
Participants are able to register to attend one or both webinars (please register separately for each webinar).
Most therapists are trained to respond to behaviour. This two-part webinar series invites you to understand the mind beneath it. In the first webinar, we explore how to work with children (5–12) through play as a form of communication, integrating relational dynamics and parent work to access the child’s inner world. In the second, we shift to adolescents, where play gives way to complex relational patterns, resistance, and identity struggles, requiring a more flexible and integrative therapeutic approach. Across both sessions, you’ll learn how to move beyond surface-level interventions and develop a coherent, depth-oriented framework that integrates your work with children, adolescents, and their families — so you can feel more confident, less pressured, and more effective in the therapy room.
Webinar 1 explores how to work effectively with children aged 5–12 using a Deep Mind psychodynamic and relational approach to play therapy. Rather than focusing on behaviour change alone, participants will learn how to understand play as a meaningful expression of the child’s internal world, shaped by early attachment experiences and unconscious processes.
The session will focus on how to integrate play, relational attunement, and parent work into a coherent treatment model. Clinicians will learn how to use play materials, their own emotional responses, and the parent–child dynamic as primary sources of clinical information, allowing for deeper, more sustainable therapeutic change.
This webinar is the first webinar in a 2 part series. Registration is required for each webinar separately. Here is the link to Webinar 2.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:
- Identify how play communicates unconscious emotional and relational dynamics, and apply this understanding to guide therapeutic interventions.
- Integrate child-focused play therapy with parent work, using transference, countertransference, and family dynamics to inform treatment planning and enhance outcomes.
