Evidence-based and neuro-affirming intervention for ADHD: Parent training

Overview

This workshop aims to provide knowledge and practical tools to deliver 'parent training' - an evidence-based intervention recommended in the Australian Clinical Guidelines for ADHD.  Parent training is an  intervention that targets the needs of children and adolescents with ADHD, through working directly with their parents (or carers).  

This workshop is relevant for any psychologist working with children with ADHD and will provide the opportunity to improve outcomes by providing the parent training intervention to parents/carers.

Prerequisite

Participants will be required to view a 1 hour recording in preparation for this activity. The recording is included as part of the enrolment fee and will be provided to participants prior to the webinar.

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

This webinar will be recorded and made available only to participants of the live event for 12 months. The recording is not intended to replace live participation.

Places are limited and registration will not be available after the webinar has taken place.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of these webinars, participants should be able to:

  • implement the Australian Clinical Guideline recommendations for non-pharmacological intervention for ADHD,

  • incorporate ADHD-specific considerations for case formulation and treatment planning, and

  • use practical tools in sessions when working with parents/carers

Dr Maddi Derrick MAPS

About the presenter(s)

Dr Maddi Derrick is a Clinical Psychologist and founding director of Hobart ADHD Consultants, where she leads a team of psychologists providing neurodiversity-affirming assessment and treatment services for ADHD. Maddi also provides training and supervision for professionals in a range of sectors. Maddi has lived experience of ADHD herself and is a passionate advocate for a better deal for the ADHD community. She was involved in the development of the 'Australian Evidence-based Clinical Guidelines for ADHD', approved by the NHMRC and released in 2022, and is a regular contributor to advocacy initiatives and media related to ADHD.
