Equine Assisted EMDR in the Treatment of Mental Health

Overview

The EMDR Therapy and Psychology Interest Group will host a webinar with Sue Jakes on incorporating therapeutic engagement with horses and EMDR therapy. Sue will introduce this unique and innovative approach to moderating common barriers and potentially enhancing the benefits of EMDR for mental health across the lifespan. In this presentation, we explore the practice of working alongside horses in the context of EMDR therapy, touch on the research and current limitations as well as acknowledging the possibilities of how equine inclusion can support the healing process of EMDR whilst maintaining the fidelity of the model.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:
1. Identify research based indicators for EA-EMDR as a valuable transdiagnostic approach to mental health across the lifespan.
2. Consider the unique contributions of EA-EMDR toward improving accessibility and enhancing therapeutic outcomes for particular client cohorts.
3. Describe several basic practice principles of EA-EMDR.
