Motor Neurone Disease

There is no cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) or hope for cessation of progression, therefore, treatment and care focus on the optimisation and sustainment of quality of life and symptom relief via supportive care.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that psychological factors have a profound impact on the quality of life of people living with MND (plwMND) and their carers. Multidisciplinary teams become recommended practice in the care for plwMND and their loved ones since the focus has moved beyond just physical symptom management.

The Australian Psychological Society, with funding from FightMND, has developed resources for psychologists and physiotherapists to help them identify common mental health considerations in the management of plwMND and their carers and help them adapt their practice to meet the needs of this cohort.
