The Australian Psychological Society (APS) submitted recommendations to Queensland Health’s review of the Allied Health Clinical Governance Framework, advocating for a framework that recognises and supports psychologists' expertise in delivering evidence-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective healthcare for Queenslanders.
Key recommendations include:
Workforce capability and capacity – Addressing psychologist workforce shortages, improving access to clinical supervision, and enhancing retention strategies, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Recognition of professional scope – Ensuring psychologists' expertise is utilised appropriately within Queensland Health structures, preventing dilution of their specialised skills.
Strategic leadership – Establishing dedicated, psychology-specific senior leadership roles to strengthen clinical governance and advocate for resources to support high-quality psychological care.
