Response to the Autism CRC review of the National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Australia

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) welcomed the opportunity to respond to the review of the Autism CRC National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Australia (the Guideline) to help ensure that the Guideline remains up to date and continues to be relevant to people with autism, those close to them, and practitioners who are involved in assessment and diagnosis.

The APS response included feedback about:

  • Important principles, referrals for assessment, initial assessment of functioning, medical evaluation and diagnostic assessment of autism,
  • Key issues regarding the safety and well-being of individuals during the assessment and diagnosis process, and
  • Barriers and enablers to implementing the Guideline.
