Submission about regulatory alignment across the care and support sector

The APS welcomed the opportunity to attend a consultation workshop and provide a subsequent written response about aligning regulation across the aged care, NDIS, disability support and veterans' care services systems. This consultation considered challenges for regulatory alignment and solutions to support the safety and quality of care and supports provided to consumers and participants.

The APS agreed that regulatory alignment across the care and support sector is necessary to reduce duplication, improve safety and quality of care, and increase the flexibility and mobility of the workforce, including the psychology workforce.

The APS called for the next steps to include:

  • Publication of a roadmap outlining the complex array of regulatory alignment and sector-specific reforms and timelines to ensure that the care and support services sector consumers, providers, and workforce are sufficiently informed and involved in reform decision-making.
  • Incorporating into regulations the AHPRA registration and continuing professional development requirements for health professionals seeking entry into or working in the care and support services sector to reduce duplication and time/costs burden for health professionals.
