Child, family and social services

The APS has been a powerful advocate over the last decade for increased investment and focus on the social and emotional needs of children, young people and families and has strongly argued the case with the government and policy makers.

The APS influences the implementation of government policies and programs for children, families and social services through responding to parliamentary inquiries and government and departmental consultation processes as well as advocating directly on important issues. The APS has provided advice on a range of issues, including:

  • services for children and families
  • domestic violence
  • gender and marriage equality
  • gambling
  • multiculturalism
  • social cohesion
  • youth justice systems
  • child abuse and neglect, including institutional responses to child sexual abuse
  • refugees.

Pre-Budget submissions to the Federal Government

The APS has also advocated to the Government by submitting Pre-Federal budget submissions to propose funding to support evidence-based, psychological interventions for child, family and social services.
