Education and training

The APS has advocated to the Government by submitting Pre-Federal budget submissions, to propose funding for education and training related matters.

2017-18 Pre-Budget submission

The Australian Psychological Society seeks the Government’s support to implement a 12-month trial of supervised placements in residential aged care facilities for professional psychology postgraduate students to provide, under supervision, psychological assessments, and mood and behaviour management interventions for residents as well as training for facility staff in behaviour management.

2016-17 Pre-Budget submission

  • The APS recommends Government provide support for psychologists and other allied health professionals to improve information and communications technology, infrastructure, access and capacity, including:
    • training and support through PHNs to assist providers to implement and adopt appropriate software and facilities.
  • The APS recommends Government undertake an analytical study of psychology workforce needs in order to better understand and plan for future demands on the psychology workforce.
  • The APS recommends Government fund an internship program to place postgraduate psychology students, under supervision, into residential aged care facilities to provide psychological services, as well as training and additional support to other staff in managing the challenges of working with the ageing population.
