The prevention and management of chronic disease is a critical issue in Australian health care.
The APS advocates for enhanced access to psychological services for people at risk of or living with chronic illness. As experts in behaviour change, psychologists can assist people to modify their lifestyles to improve their health, adhere to complex treatment regimes, and cope with the challenges of living with a chronic illness.
Advocacy efforts include:
- seeking increased government funding to improve access for consumers to affordable and evidence-based psychological interventions to prevent and better manage chronic diseases.
Pre-Budget submissions to the Federal Government
The APS has also advocated to the Government by submitting Pre-Federal budget submissions, to propose funding to support evidence-based, psychological interventions for people with chronic disease.
