In this submission the APS confirmed its endorsement of the Royal Commission's process and its expectation that the recommendations be implemented in full, to keep faith with those who were abused in institutions under our collective watch.
Redress under the Scheme consists of a monetary payment of up to $150, 000, access to counselling and psychological services and the option to receive a direct personal response from a responsible institution(s).
The APS is concerned that the proposed Scheme falls short across a number of the Commission's recommendations. In particular, the cap of $5000 on counselling and psychological services does not align with the Commission's recommendation that survivors should have access to counselling and psychological services across their lifetime.
