The Australian Psychological Society (APS) welcomes the final report of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse released today.
APS President Anthony Cichello FAPS congratulated the Royal Commission and said the APS had been pleased to provide expert advice during the five-year process.
“The APS also commends the Commissioners for the sensitive and compassionate way they have conducted their investigations”.
He said: “We look forward to the Royal Commission’s conclusions being acted on to ensure that those who experienced childhood abuse are better supported and future generations are better protected.”
Mr Cichello said: “It is important that the work of the Commission is followed by a firm commitment to fund the recommendations.”
“We recognise the thorough work of those involved and the bravery of those victims who felt able to speak on behalf of the thousands of Australians who experienced sexual abuse in institutional contexts and live with the legacy today. Psychologists are all too aware of the consequences of these abuses.”
