Submission to inquiry into Employment Discrimination Against Older Australians and Australians with Disability

This document is a submission made in 2015 by the APS to the Australian Human Rights Commission National Inquiry into Employment Discrimination Against Older Australians and Australians with Disability: Willing to Work.

This detailed submission highlights that the right to work, free from discrimination on any basis, is a fundamental human right. However, there is unambiguous evidence to indicate that people do not have equitable opportunities to participate in employment – and this is particularly the case for older people and people with disability.

The APS concludes that effectively addressing employment discrimination will require a multifaceted approach which includes community and employer education, effective legislation and government policies that create more, and increasingly flexible, job opportunities.
