Introducing our new publishing partnership with Taylor & Francis
Early in 2020 the APS engaged Taylor & Francis as publishers of four of the Society’s journals: Australian Journal of Psychology, Australian Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist and Educational and Developmental Psychologist. The APS sees great opportunities in working with Taylor & Francis to grow the influence and impact of the journals – within Australia and internationally. The aim is to raise the profile of the journals and attract the very best research from around the world.
This year, the four journals began a process to move from Wiley to Taylor & Francis, with the complete transfer to Taylor & Francis by 1 January 2021. The journals will continue to be available online and in hard copy by subscription. Members can subscribe to hard-copy versions of each of the journals, with the exception of Educational and Developmental Psychologist, from their Member Dashboard.
About Taylor & Francis
Taylor & Francis is a leading international publisher in psychological content with an illustrious history spanning 220 years and a portfolio that includes Darwin, Freud, Einstein, Faraday, Piaget, Skinner and Chomsky among many others. With staff in Melbourne and throughout the world, Taylor & Francis is well-established to provide expert support to the Society and to the journal editors.
Revitalising the journals
As part of the new arrangements, the APS decided to undertake a refresh of the journals giving them a new contemporary look while maintaining some APS history. The new journal designs incorporate variations on the ‘tree of knowledge’ motif, which has been a part of the APS branding in some form or another for many years.
Australian Journal of Psychology (AJP)
The Australian Journal of Psychology is the flagship publication of the Australian Psychological Society aimed at researchers in the field of psychological science. It is an international peer-reviewed journal that publishes empirical research across the full range of pure and applied topics in psychological science. The journal encourages open science initiatives such as Registered Reports. In an exciting new shift, AJP will be a fully open-access journal from 2022, with the APS providing some publishing subsidies for APS members.
Australian Psychologist (AP)
The Australian Psychologist is the flagship journal of the APS for practising professional psychologists. It is an international peer-reviewed journal which focuses on current issues in the science and practice of psychology, and how this applies to professional practice and public policy, with an emphasis on mental health and wellbeing.
Educational and Developmental Psychologist (EDP)
Educational and Developmental Psychologist is the official journal of the APS College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists and publishes peer-reviewed research within the field of developmental psychology and its applications to a range of populations, contexts and settings. The journal will be available to members of the APS College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists free of charge immediately upon release with access extended to all APS members after a 12-month period.
Clinical Psychologist (CP)
Clinical Psychologist is the official journal of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. It is an international peer-reviewed journal that bridges the gap between clinical research and evidence-based practice. It publishes topics of broad relevance to those working in clinical health settings around the world. Editions of CP will be available to members of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists free of charge immediately upon release and access will be extended to all APS members after a 12-month period.
We hope members will consider the APS journals when seeking to publish their research. Information for authors
Introducing the editors
In among the changes, we also have three new editor appointments with terms beginning in 2021. As a result the Taylor & Francis crew will run an online webinar Meet the Editors session at 6pm (AEDT) 16 February 2021. The session will allow members and others interested in publishing their research to hear about the opportunities and the process for submissions.
The editors who will be part of the panel are:
- (l) Professor Justin Kenardy – Editor-in-Chief, AJP

- (r) Associate Professor Simon Rice – Editor-in-Chief, AP

- (l) Dr Richard Moulding, Editor-in-Chief, CP

- (r) Dr Kelly-Ann Allen, Editor-in-Chief, EDP
There will be a chance for a Q & A session at the end where people can put questions to the panel, or submit questions leading up to the session to [email protected]
