Overview

As part of its commitment to supporting psychologists through regulatory change, the APS is delivering a webinar series designed to help members understand and apply the revised AHPRA Code of conduct and updated Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) competencies.

This series is part of the APS’s broader effort to ensure psychologists are informed, confident, and equipped to meet new regulatory expectations while maintaining ethical, culturally safe, and professional practice.

Webinars include the following topics, with more to be added in due course: 

  1. Introduction to the new AHPRA Code of conduct and Competencies for psychologists
  2. Privacy and confidentiality, consent, record keeping in line with the new Code of conduct
  3. Boundaries and multiple relationships in line with the new Code of conduct

Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and managing multiple relationships are critical elements of ethical psychological practice.

This webinar delves into these complex areas through the lens of the revised AHPRA Code of conduct, with a focus on real-world application. 

Using case-based discussions, the session will explore how psychologists can navigate dual or multiple relationships, role clarity, and boundary-setting, while upholding the trust and safety essential to therapeutic practice.

Participants will reflect on common dilemmas and learn how to make ethically sound decisions aligned with regulatory expectations and cultural safety.

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Target audience

Registered psychologists, provisionally registered psychologists, psychology educators and supervisors.

Duration of access

This webinar will be recorded. Access to the recording and presenter slides is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and interpret updated guidance on boundaries and multiple relationships in the new Code of conduct,

  • Analyse complex boundary situations and determine ethical courses of action,

  • Reflect on the impact of power dynamics and cultural considerations in professional relationships, and

  • Implement proactive strategies to manage or avoid boundary crossings and violations.
