In this submission, the APS draws on available evidence that links sexualisation with three of the most common mental health problems of girls and women: eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression or depressed mood, among other outcomes.
The APS welcomes the Inquiry, along with actions to address and reduce the impact of sexualisation on children and young people. In particular, the submission makes recommendations to the Children’s Advocate, as well as to parents, schools, governments and children young people, to assist children and young people to make sense of and resist sexualising cultural environments.
