In 2010 the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) created the pathways to area of practice endorsement. The PsyBA clearly indicated that an endorsement is not a separate specialist register, nor is it based on experience derived during the course of a professional career.
The following areas of practice endorsement are available for psychologists:
To be eligible to apply for an area of practice endorsement a psychologist must have completed advanced training in the form of an APAC-accredited Masters or Doctorate qualification in the particular area of practice followed by a requisite period of supervised practice.
The requirements for area of practice endorsement are set out in the Area of practice endorsements registration standard.
To be eligible to apply to start a registrar program you must already hold general registration. You can use the following form:
Before completion of their doctoral thesis Doctorate candidates may apply for general registration, and also apply to begin the registrar program.
Read the following documents for further information:
Once you have met all of the four criteria below you can apply to the Board for approval of the registrar program using this form:
Use the following forms to report to the Board during the registrar program:
At the end of the registrar program a final progress report needs to be completed and submitted to the PsyBA with an application for endorsement:
Refer to the PsyBA’s schedule of fees for details of application fees and registration fees.
As at 28 August 2018
Please note that there is a non-standard pathway for applicants for endorsement who have not completed a Psychology Board of Australia registrar program, including overseas trained applicants and applicants who apply under transition provisions.
The transition provisions apply to psychologists who were already enrolled in an accredited Masters or combined Masters/PhD immediately prior to the commencement of the National Scheme, i.e. on 30 June 2010. Refer to the above non-standard pathway application form for details.
Graduates of Doctorate programs who were enrolled on 30 June 2010 may apply directly for area of practice endorsement.
