Division of Early Career

Division of Early Career means the Member Unit comprising Members of the Society who commenced paid employment involving the discipline or profession of psychology within the last seven (7) years.

Membership of the Division of Early Career is open to all eligible APS members and there is no additional cost to be a member. If you started paid employment in psychology within the last seven years, and would like to be a member of this Division, please ensure your Career stage details are up to date, under Employment details, on your APS member dashboard.

The APS Division of Early Career Committee

The purpose of the APS Division of Early Career Committee (DECC) is to represent what’s most important to you, our early career psychologists.

What does the DECC do?

The DECC exists to represent the views of the Division of Early Career. They provide input, advice and/or recommendations to the CEO via the DECC APS representative regarding:

  • Initiatives of relevance and value to early career psychologists,
  • Early career psychologists' past, current, and emerging issues and opportunities,
  • Opportunities to raise awareness and communicate the benefits of APS membership to early career psychologists who are, or may not yet be APS members, and
  • Existing, or new products and services to support and benefit early career psychologists and members.

Division of Early Career Committee – Terms of Reference

The Division of Early Career Committee (DECC) exists to represent the views of the Division of Early Career.

Who is the Division of Early Career?

The Division of Early Career comprises of members starting out in the discipline or profession of psychology. Our early career members are 0 – 7 years along in their practice of psychology and the division also includes members that are not yet registered. The Division of Early Career is a member group that exists to support our early career members, whilst ensuring their voice, and the matters most important to them, are heard.

The DECC will provide input, advice and/or recommendations to the CEO via the DECC APS representative regarding:

  1. initiatives of relevance and value to early career psychologists and members
  2. early career psychologists' past, current, and emerging issues, and opportunities,
  3. opportunities to raise awareness and communicate the benefits of APS membership to early career psychologists who are, or may not yet be APS members, and
  4. existing, or new products and services to support and benefit early career psychologists and members

The DECC will be invited, where possible, to (i) collaborate on initiatives and resource development(ii) promote the benefits of APS membership to early career members across a range of different contexts, and (iii) review and pilot products, services and initiatives designed for APS early career members.

The DECC will be chaired by a member of the DECC who is elected by a nomination process. If there is more than one nomination, and all nominees would like to go to a secret ballot with DECC, this would be the process of determining chair.

It is the ongoing aim of the DECC to ensure diversity and representation across the APS membership, including all endorsed and non-endorsed areas.

Note:

  • Members of the Group will meet quarterly (approximately), virtually via Teams.
  • Positions are held for a one-year term
