The evidence and implementation of neuropsychological interventions for older adults

Organiser Banner

Overview

The APS hosts this activity with the Psychology and Ageing Interest Group (PAIG).

There is a solid evidence-base that neuropsychological (cognitive) interventions are effective for older adults, including those with dementia or mild cognitive impairment. Despite this, older adults are generally unable to access these interventions in clinical or community settings in Australia. One barrier is that few psychologists work clinically with this group, even though they make up approximately 16% of our population.

This webinar will review considerations when working with older adults and the research evidence for neuropsychological interventions with older adults. Practical experience will also be shared including some simple effective cognitive strategies, and participants will be invited to reflect on how they could incorporate this knowledge into their own practice.
