Psychologists for Peace Interest Group Working Together for Peace Award

The Working Together for Peace Award encourages and recognises innovative group projects by young people that address current social issues around peace and conflict using psychological knowledge or strategies.

Administration

  1. The Psychologists for Peace Interest Group is responsible for funding of the biennial award.
  2. The administration of the award is undertaken by Psychologists for Peace Interest Group Victorian Subcommittee.
  3. The Victorian State Coordinator of the Psychologists for Peace Interest Group will appoint a Selection Committee of at least three members, one or more of whom will be a member of the Psychologists for Peace Interest Group and one or more of whom will have experience working with young people.
  4. The Psychologists for Peace Interest Group Working Together for Peace Award Selection Committee will be responsible for recommending to the APS Board the team to receive the main award, as well as one or more teams (up to 2 in total) to receive a Highly Commended Certificate.
  5. The Psychologists for Peace Interest Group Working Together for Peace Award Selection Committee will be responsible for issuing a Participation Certificate to those teams who have shown a commitment to undertaking their project.
  6. If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no entry is deemed worthy of the Award, no Award will be given.
  7. The name/s of the award recipients and a description of their projects will be included on the Interest Group page and announced via APS digital communication channels.
  8. The award may be presented at an awards ceremony or another appropriate APS event.

Eligibility

  1. Applicant should consist of three (3) or more people aged 16-25 years who are living in Australia.
  2. The team may be supported by a mentor (who should be mentioned in the application providing contact details)
  3. The team must submit documentation of their project by the due date.

Application process

  1. Applications for the Working Together for Peace Award will be called for biennially by the publication of notices in educational and APS digital communication channels
  2. Applications must be addressed to the Psychologists for Peace Interest Group and be received by the date shown in the call for applications notice.
  3. Applications will be made by completing the Award Document and emailing this to the Member Groups team (see further details under 'Closing Date' section). The application requires documentation of the project undertaken and the ways in which it has met the selection criteria of the Working Together for Peace Award, and includes the applicants’ full contact details, and the name, position and contact details of an adult referee who knows the team members and knows about their project.
  4. Applicants can also attach other supporting material (e.g. videos, photos, Facebook or Twitter campaign, Blog, YouTube video, PowerPoint presentation, song lyrics, drama scripts, artwork, surveys). Further details are provided in the Award Application Document. 
  5. Only one application will be accepted per team.

Selection criteria

Essential criteria
The Award will be awarded on the basis of documentation of a project conducted in the current year that:

  • Helped build peace and made a positive contribution to a community or the broader society in the area(s) specified in the Application Form.
  • Used some of the resources or ideas listed here and/or any other relevant psychological resources. 
  • Showed creativity or innovation.

Additional criteria
The Selection Committee will also take into account:

  • Evidence that the project has potential to be replicated or extended. 
  • The age of team members.

Value of award

Successful candidates of the Working Together for Peace Award will:

  • Be presented with a certificate
  • Receive a prize of $1500.00
  • Highly Commended Certificates and prize awards of $750 will be given to up to two other applicants.
  • All applicants will receive a Participation Certificate.

Applications close on the 16th September (even numbered years only)
