Overview
The Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) is consulting with the profession on updating the Professional competencies for general registration as a psychologist in Australia.
The APS is hosting this webinar to assist members understand the proposed competencies, and how members will be supported in the transition to the new competencies. The webinar will also provide an opportunity for members to provide the PsyBA with feedback about the competencies and the transition plan before they are finalised.
Psychologists will need to familiarise themselves with the competencies once they are approved. While many psychologists, training providers, and supervisors will already be demonstrating these competencies (or teaching them), as a matter of course in their day-to-day work, others will need to focus intentionally on integrating the skills and knowledge for these competencies into their practice and deepen their understanding.
Note: APS members who attended the live webinar were encouraged to read the Consultation Paper and Guide before attending the webinar, as published on the PsyBA's website at the time: https://www.psychologyboard.gov.au/News/Current-Consultations.aspx. The APS coordinated a response to the PsyBA based on collated member feedback.
