Metacognitive therapy for working with worry

Overview

The APS hosts this webinar with the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

This webinar will provide participants with an overview of metacognitive therapy as applied to the treatment of chronic worry.

It will cover:

  • the overarching aim of metacognitive therapy will be addressed, with particular attention to developing a shared metacognitive formulation with clients to guide the therapy process,

  • an overview of key formulation-driven therapeutic interventions including tips for common pitfalls, and

  • resources for further development of formulation and intervention skills in this area will be provided.

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to the recording and presenter slides is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Dr Lisa Saulsman MAPS

About the presenter(s)

Dr Lisa Saulsman is a registered clinical psychologist, completing her Masters of Clinical Psychology and PhD at the University of Western Australia. She worked for a large part of her career in public mental health at the Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI), and has spent time in private practice. Her clinical experience has been in the provision of individual and group CBT-based interventions, to adults with complex and enduring depressive and anxiety disorders. In addition to her clinical work, throughout her career she has been heavily involved in developing and facilitating CBT-based training workshops for mental health practitioners. She has also had involvement in developing new treatment protocols in the areas of general mood management, imagery-enhanced CBT for social anxiety disorder, and metacognitive therapy for worry and rumination. In addition, she has also co-authored numerous online self-help treatment resources covering clinical areas, such as worry, self-esteem, distress intolerance, self-compassion, procrastination, health anxiety, and body dysmorphia. Lisa now works as a Senior Lecture within the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia, teaching and supervising into the postgraduate clinical psychology program. She carries the roles of Deputy Clinic Director (Robin Winkler Clinic) and Clinical Psychology Placement Coordinator.
