This document is a submission made in 2018 by the APS to the Queensland Anti-Cyberbullying Taskforce.
In this submission, the APS commended the Queensland Government's establishment of an expert Taskforce to develop a proposal to address the complex and pervasive issue of cyberbullying.
Serious psychosocial consequences of cyberbullying include:
- fearing for one's safety
- impaired social and emotional adjustment
- poor academic achievement
- anxiety
- depression and suicidality
- poorer physical health
- higher absenteeism
- increased loneliness and
- low self-esteem.
This submission focused on the context and impacts of cyberbullying, and recommended multi-level strategies to prevent and respond to cyberbullying of young people.
