You asked, we acted

You asked, we acted

Join us in September for ‘Unpacking trauma’ – our first members’ choice symposium.

This is new – both for you and for the APS. It is the first time we have rapidly implemented a CPD idea in response to member feedback and created a fully formed CPD event in the space of just a few months.

Earlier this year we asked what you wanted from your CPD. More than 1250 gave us your thoughts. Accessible, flexible and evidence-based all came through loud and clear. So did CPD topics from which you can easily apply your learning to your studies, research or practice – and you told us that you need trauma to be covered, now.

This fully virtual two-day CPD symposium – streaming live into your workplaces and homes – will take a deep dive into best-practice approaches for the treatment of different types of trauma, from PTSD and perinatal trauma, to trauma among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and so much more.

We have secured high profile, accessible, engaging presenters – again based on feedback from your peers. These include Dr Zac Seidler (Movember) and Professor David Forbes (Phoenix Australia), as well as Dr Gill Hicks (lived experience) who will share her experience of surviving the London terrorist bombings and going through extensive rehabilitation as a double amputee.

With your peers, I encourage you to take part in this experience. You’ll be able to reach out to those within, and outside, your network through our virtual hubs, and you’ll have access to the 18 CPD hours either live or later via recordings. Flexibility is what we all need right now, and this virtual format delivers that to you.

CPD on the go is the APS theme and brand for CPD providing options that fit around your professional life, such as 1–2 hour mobile-friendly learning courses using an article-plus-short-quiz format, you can find them on our website (bit.ly/36NFhsb). Thousands of members are already benefiting from and enjoying the APS new way of learning. We will be adding to the CPD on the go library in the coming weeks, along with more self-paced e-learning courses on child development and advanced CBT.

We know that your CPD needs are important, continue to evolve, and that we need to anticipate your CPD needs. Unpacking trauma will take place 3–4 September 2021.
