New Directors appointed to the APS Board

Under the Constitution of the Society, it is possible for the APS Board of Directors to identify areas of expertise which the Board feels should be strengthened or enhanced to improve Board effectiveness and representation, and, on that basis, to appoint directors to the Board for a one-year term.

At the first meeting of the new APS Board of Directors following the AGM, the Board identified two areas of representation which it felt would enhance the functioning of the Board. The areas identified included corporate finance and governance, and enhanced diversity within the Board in terms of training, specialisation and geographic location. On this basis, two new General Directors have been appointed to the Board for a one-year term commencing from 8 October 2011, being Ms Sue Carter and Dr Nick Reynolds MAPS.

Sue Carter has a consulting practice specialising in corporate governance and board effectiveness and is a facilitator with the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is the former Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) Regional Commissioner for Victoria. Sue is a non-executive Director of AMP Superannuation Ltd, ANZ Staff Superannuation (Australia) Pty Ltd, and the Treasury Corporation of Victoria. She is also a member of the Private Health Insurance Administration Council and until recently was a member of the Compliance Committee of Black Rock Investment Management (Australia) Ltd. Sue brings to the Board expertise in financial management and accounting, as well as in corporate governance.

Dr Nick Reynolds MAPS is an independently practising organisational psychologist and consults to a wide variety of organisations. He previously spent 17 years as an Army psychologist and worked on policy for dealing with PTSD in veterans, performance management and human resources initiatives, as well as running the Army’s psychological research unit. He has been a member of the Society for over thirty years and has held various State and national positions with the Queensland Branch, the ACT Branch and the College of Organisational Psychologists. Nick brings to the Board his extensive skills in the area of organisational psychology and organisational development, as well as his comprehensive knowledge of the corporate scene in New South Wales.

Overall, both newly appointed Board Directors will add great depth to the deliberations of the Board, which we believe will be more effective and representative as a result of their participation.

Professor Simon Crowe FAPS, APS President
