Members of the Society have the opportunity to influence how the APS is governed by voting in the 2011 Board of Directors election for the President-Elect and two General Director positions on the Board. The Board of Directors governs the APS and has overall responsibility for pursuing the Society’s mission, determining the strategic plan and priorities, monitoring implementation and developing a resource base to support the Society’s activities. Voting in the election provides members with an important opportunity to determine the composition of the Board and hence its representation of the interests of members, so remember to cast your vote this year!
Voting members of the Society will receive voting papers and election materials in early September and will also be provided with information on how to lodge votes electronically. It is hoped that the convenience of online voting will encourage many members to participate in the election. For those who wish to opt out of receiving election materials in hard copy and instead access them from the APS website, go to ‘Manage your membership’ on the website and make the appropriate selection. Members will receive reminders about the election and online voting in APS Matters. The results of the election will be announced at the Annual General Meeting of the Society on 6 October 2011.
